Can’t I just exercise my way to weight loss?

It stands to reason that exercise and weight loss go hand in hand. But is exercise the BEST way to lose weight?

A recent study in the Journal of Strength & Conditioning Research found that if you’re just getting started in exercise, and your goal is fat loss, you simply aren’t going to see results unless you change your diet first.

The study gave a large group of participants different types of workouts in different orders, including both cardio and weight training. No matter how hard the participants worked out, they didn’t slim down an inch without making dietary changes.

I fully believe in the magic of exercise – it clears your mind, improves your outlook, and gives you an energy boost for the rest of the day.

But I can’t help but just shake my head when people think that sweating buckets in a gym class will bring about big changes in their health or appearance. Nutrition has to be considered, too.
