When the switch gets flipped, the results roll in…

What do you do when you’ve struggled with weight your whole life? You feel trapped. You lose hope. Sometimes you begin to doubt any and every idea. A lot of people quit and resign themselves to a life of excess weight and illness. After so much disappointment, it’s understandable.

Matthew found himself in a similar position.

Having battled weight issues since childhood, he was looking for a solution when a friend recommended Arena Fitness and our weight loss program in Encino.

He registered for our 28 Day Balanced Habits 28 Day KICK START™, which is Phase One of our nutrition program, to get the ball rolling. He started doing our group training classes and following the nutrition plan in the program.

And something happened…..he started to produce results.

From Phase One to Phase Two….

Encouraged, he stayed on after the 28 Day KICK START™ and continued training with us.

Then, knowing he needed more guidance to really stay on track and produce long-term, sustainable results, he transitioned to the Balanced Habits LIFE™ program. The LIFE™ program is Phase Two of our nutrition program, a 3 to 6 month ongoing nutrition coaching program that solidifies healthy nutrition habits in a way that really encodes them into your daily behavior.

Smart move. His results kept coming. After several more weeks, he was down 30 pounds.

But he didn’t stop there….

Matthew continue to stick to the LIFE™ program diligently, and he also immersed himself in more healthy events, like our Smoothie Party and Goal Strategy Workshop. In other words, he embraced a total approach of engagement and openness to coaching and support.

At the four month mark he hit 50 pounds lost, which is amazing!

But he’s not content to sit back and rest on his accomplishments. He’s taking on more challenges and continuing to improve his habits daily.

The story doesn’t end here!

We can’t wait to continue to be a part of Matthew’s health transformation. It embodies everything we stand for and are passionate about at Arena Fitness.

From Stacey Garcia, our Nutrition Director:

“As a coach, you always dream of that ideal client. The one who always shows up with a “What’s next” attitude. One who never strives for perfection, but for a today better than yesterday. One who always shows up, never gives up and works their tush off.  I found those characteristics in Matthew four months ago and have had the absolute pleasure of guiding him into the bad-ass man he is today.”

Here is Matthew’s story, in his own words:

“I’ve been overweight my entire life. It’s something I was bullied about as a child, and the one thing in my life I never felt I had control over. Through the years, my weight has fluctuated drastically. I’ve tried more fad diets than I care to admit. I’ve tried running, aerobics classes, even wearing a sweat suit- but these methods were temporary, and any weight lost was quickly gained back, oftentimes in excess.

When I first came to Arena Fitness I was, admittedly, intimidated by the process. I began with the Kickstart program, and shocked myself with the results. 28 days doesn’t seem like much time, but it was enough to see results were possible, with the right guidance. I decided to continue at Arena Fitness and joined the Life program to continue my nutritional education. This is what made all the difference for me.

The Life program was instrumental in guiding my everyday habits. I learned you can still easily gain fat while exercising consistently if your nutrition is not planned properly. I also learned not to expect perfection, and to be patient. So much of our daily lives is instantaneous. As frustrating as it often is, weight loss is not. Obvious, right? Yet still a tough lesson for me to learn.

Over the last few months, I have also learned to forgive myself. For my past mistakes, for the ones I will make in the future, and for the time lost by not educating myself. I know my work is far from over, but I recognize the importance of celebrating your success. I have now lost over 50lbs total. I anticipate more tough times, plateaus, and poor food choices, but I feel more prepared than ever to overcome those daily challenges.

To everyone at Arena Fitness, I want you to know how incredibly grateful I am for your persistence, your positivity, and your patience. In the few months I’ve been under your guidance, I have learned so much about fitness, nutrition, and myself. You have shown me I am capable of more than I previously thought possible, and you have forced me to challenge myself in new and exciting ways. The lessons you teach are absolutely invaluable, and I am exceptionally thankful for each and every one of you.”
