My experience with Arena has been AMAZING. I don’t plan on ever leaving hahaha.

Doing the TDC was a huge accomplishment for me. Mostly because it’s the first thing I’ve done for myself in a very long time!!

I had many obstacles such as moving, not having a kitchen for a week, working full-time, being a full-time student and driving to Northridge and Encino from Santa Clarita for most of the TDC. Regardless I was determined to get healthy. I’d workout 4 to 5 days a week at Area Fitness Northridge at 6AM every time!! (Sometimes 5 min late but I was there) William helped me a lot. I couldn’t have done it without his help. He would always hand me the heavier weights. (Thanks Will) Even though I felt like I couldn’t go on with my workout I kept pushing myself and telling myself that I’m in it to win.

Although I didn’t win I’m extremely happy with my results (and compliments I receive lol) I wouldn’t trade this experience for anything else. Thank you Arena Fitness for handing me the tools I need to continue on this journey of self love and health and for everything you all do!!!!!!

“When I first started the TakeDown Challenge (TDC)  I was 230 pounds and came in with the mindset that I needed to make a change, something had to change because whatever I was doing was not working.

At the first TDC meeting we received our folders with a breakdown of how the TDC works and the lifestyle change we were about to embark on. The folder had everything we needed, it had recipes and a simple sheet that helped you make your own meals in case you did not want to do one of the recipes. The best part was if you had any question no matter what they were, Stacey Garcia was right there to answer them, she was there every step of the way. Not only did she provide you with the knowledge, but she also was also your biggest supporter.

There was also a Facebook page for everyone participating in the TDC, I have to say that was a big help for me, to see other people going through the same thing and sharing how they were feeling because many times I felt the same way.

The other big part of this that helped me were the trainers, Daniela Stratman and Joe Garcia, I really could not have done as well as I did with out their support and motivation. They helped me to always dig deeper and to realize that when I thought I had given everything, I still had more to give.

This was such a great experience, not only did I find out more about myself and what I am capable of, but I also gained the knowledge of food and how to properly fuel my body.

I had an amazing experience doing the TDC. It taught me a lot about portioning and control. It surprised me to see there wasn’t any restrictions to what I can eat just as long as I portion it. I was teaching my body how to use the food as fuel and not for pleasure. During the day I never felt fatigued or hungry. I was more hydrated than ever, which made me feel even better. “After living with my post-baby body for 2 years I finally had enough! I knew I needed to find a strong program to help me lose the weight.  I found Arena fitness on Yelp and saw that enrollment for the January 2017 Kick start was taking place. I contacted them via the website and talked to Jonathan the next day. We decided the best option was to try the $20 one week trial. 
I hadn’t worked out regularly in about 6 years and pregnancy had left my abs still separated (Diastasis Recti), so I was unable to a sit-up or push up and could not sustain running for longer than 1 minute. On top of being out of shape, I had  been living with a hip injury for 3 years ago that was still causing hip/back pain.  I was so nervous walking into Arena on my first day. Will, met me at Arena Northridge and listened to all my concerns and talked me through various work outs and stretches to help with my hip/back pain. After my trial week, I was so impressed with the individual attention I got in the semi-private and group training sessions. Will and Phill always made sure the exercises didn’t put extra strain on my hip and were so attentive to my body positions. My form was so poor on all the exercises. I had no idea how much the rest of my body was compensating for weak abs and hips.
 I signed up for the January2017 Kick Start and was very impressed by the program and the meal plans. As a nurse, I am wary of gimmicky diets/fads. But I had no hesitations because all the nutritional information was presented with evidence (and it made sense).  I stuck to the nutrition and exercise program to a T. I didn’t miss a weigh in and looked forward to watching the pounds come off. On the Kick Start program I lost 12.5lbs and 18 inches total. I felt great. At the end of the program, I decided to join Arena as a member. I chose the twice a week membership, as that is all my schedule allows me to go. I continued to follow the post-program guidelines for nutrition and exercise. 
Since the end of the kick start program, I lost another 18lbs for a total of 30 lbs. I still follow the nutrition plan but it is has become normal eating for me. I don’t even think of it as “dieting” or depriving myself. I work out twice a week at Arena and two times at home. I am the strongest I have ever been.  I have not had any hip pain in the last 4 months!! My abs now have definition and not separation. I can actually do real push ups (and even plyo push ups) and sit ups. And for the first time ever, I enjoy running. Joining Arena Fitness was the best decision I made for my health and my body. Now, my focus is not weight loss, its about keeping my body healthy and getting stronger so I can continue to keep up with my toddler.

I’ve always wanted to see what my body can do – better yet, what I can do.  And let me tell you, the trainers at Arena Fitness are more than eager to see what you can do too. If you’ve got a goal, communicate it, they’re with you every step of the way. I came to Arena Fitness knowing that I required a trainer who would push me to, through, and, past, my mental limits, and that’s what I got. They asked me what my goals were. I told them that I wanted to bulk up and live a healthier lifestyle. They nodded as most guru’s do and the training began. Fast-forward four or five months and I’m still here, feeling better about myself after every class and more surprisingly, proud. I’ve never weighed as much as I do now (a good thing) and I’ve never been as flexible as I am now (also good). I’m becoming the person I always knew I could be, one burpee a time. So much gratitude for these people.

The TDC challenge was one that I was nervous about, yet very excited because I knew it would involve me making sacrifices to meet the end goal: lose fat pounds, gain some muscle, and kick start a lifestyle centered around my nutrition. It doesn’t help that my brother and I are starting a business dedicated to craft beer, and we knew that those delicious suds would be off the table for 28 days. The Arena Fitness team was committed to helping all of us along the way providing help, feedback, and inspiration to get us through cravings and keep us on the right track. I learned a lot about portion control, when to eat, when to drink lots of water (all the time), and that you don’t need to give up good food to lose weight and feel great. I would totally recommend this to others who are on a path of inconsistency and frustration. It helps to have people rooting for you, and I couldn’t be more happy that I completed the TDC. Best gym in the Valley. I started Arena fitness as a human slug who couldn’t hold a plank for 20 seconds without my whole body shaking like jello. I am proud to say that now I can hold a plank for a solid 3 minutes and that is how I measure my core strength. I hope to ease into my old age physically fit, if not gracefully.

I think the main reason TDL has been successful for me is because I don’t feel deprived. It’s all about portion control and the correct # of portions. But if I’m craving bread or something crunchy like chips, I’ll account for those carbs in my meals. Other meal plans omit foods altogether but that isn’t a realistic way to approach food for me.

I’ve followed other macro diets (along with countless others) before but TDL converts macros into units that’s pretty easy to remember. Once you recognize basic foods and how to convert into units, it’s not difficult to follow. That being said, it does take effort and diligence. What you get out of it is what you put into it. So yes, it will take some time to measure out foods or meal prep from time to time but when I started getting busy mid week, I definitely didn’t regret spending an afternoon shopping and cooking food ahead of time.

The TDC works because many of the recipes are delicious, and, so long as you drink plenty of water, you won’t get too hungry. In addition, the accountability to Stacey and the competitive aspect of it keeps you motivated. I decided to be part of the TDC program because I knew nutrition plays a big role in losing weight and maintaining it thereafter. I have lost weight several times in the past but was ignorant about how to eat right without starving. I used to work out semi-privately with Stacey but after my 2nd kid was born, I completely stopped and before I knew it, almost two years flew by without me stepping into a gym once.  My eating habits were, lets say, less than ideal so – surprise, surprise – I found myself weighing the most I had ever been in my life.  Between not fitting into a lot of my clothes and my doctor telling me my all my numbers were too high, I finally decided I needed to do something drastic to make a change.  I remembered seeing the TakeDown Challenge when I used to work out at Arena and decided I had to give it a shot.  The TDC was great because they gave you all the tools to succeed — the recipes, the precise food plan, the nutritional charts, the daily journal – and as long as you followed the course laid out for you, it was pretty simple.  The real challenge, of course, was how to avoid falling off the wagon, but for me the competition element of the TDC along with the weekly accountability of the weigh-in was exactly the kind of incentive I needed.  Stacey was great at managing expectations but also being a constant source of advice and inspiration.  Losing two pounds after the first week didn’t feel like a big accomplishment but I kept my head down and before I knew it, two pounds turned to four pounds, four pounds turned to six, and by the end of the 4 weeks, I had lost 12 pounds! Not satisfied with just losing 12 pounds and wanting to keep the momentum going, I signed up for the TakeDown Lifestyle which wasn’t a hard transition at all.  I still stuck to the plan Stacey outlined for me, still kept my check-ins with her, and it all just became part of my lifestyle, pun intended!  The great thing about TDL is that its sensible and reasonable – you can have your cheat days to keep you sane and it really is about making better eating choices and habits, hopefully for the rest of your life.  If you’re someone who is looking to make a change and get healthier, I would highly recommend the TDC and TDL – what have you got to lose, other than dropping those pounds?!?!

The TDC is a great program to help keep me focused on my goals. I haven’t worked out in 5 years and was out of shape and not in a good mindset about how overweight I had become. I wanted to get healthy and didn’t know where to start. I didn’t make a resolution this year, but I did a google search and found Arena Fitness and the TDC in December of 2015. The TDC and Arena Fitness got me on track with a fitness and nutrition program that works. I’ve always been a fairly healthy eater, but didn’t know my limits when it comes to portion control. TDC’s program helped me stay consistent with portion control and kept on track, even with 2 east coast business trips and an overnight work retreat during the 28 day challenge. I learned how to become a better eater, even when going thru the buffet line at hotel convention center. A lot of credit needs to go to Will and Stacey of Arena Fitness. They were incredibly positive, helpful and encouraging during the challenge. We have a saying the recruiting company I work for – “Work the system, because the system works.” I’d like to slightly modify this saying to “Work the TDC, because the TDC works.

This place changed my life! I lost 70 pounds based on a program of training with Arena Fitness 6 days a week and signing up to join the SHRED. I been a member for almost 2 years and haven’t missed a more than a week worth of training there. The classes are small and very challenging. I would recommend the Northridge location, as it is very open, with friendly people. I have met some of my greatest friends through Arena and spend over night weekends on Spartan Races and Mudders. The staff is small, respectful, full of knowledge and inspiring. If you put in the work, you will get the results you are looking for. Try it, and you will be hooked!

The trainers treat each person as an individual. There are some people who are extremely fit and others not so. But, nobody feels left out. The trainers train to each level incredibly well. I personally have a number of limitations that prevent me from doing certain exercises. The trainers help to modify certain movements and work with me to reach my goals. It’s like having my own personal trainer for a fraction of the cost!

I have never felt any connection to a gym. You go in – do your work out, hope nobody is going to hard sell you on membership….  I have the total opposite experience here.  It’s like having a workout buddy that will keep you honest.  The instructors know you, when you come to class (and when you don’t)  The workouts are perfect for me.  In and out in 45 minutes – perfect for a working mom.  Good variety in the classes – you work really really hard which I love.  You feel like every minute at the class is paying off. Personally I’ve lost weight and feel much stronger.   I can’t recommend Arena enough.  Jonathan, Joe, Stacy and William are great.

After participating in semi-private training sessions as well as group classes for a year I decided this year to take advantage of Arena’s program for creating healthy eating habits. I’ve been going to Arena’s Encino location since August 2014.  Not only do I get an intense workout every time I go, I also have a made a number of friends. From the moment I joined, everyone was very welcoming – both the instructors as well as other members.  The gym has been helpful with my strength training and overall endurance.  It’s very much a family atmosphere where you get to know each other well.  I enjoy the various Spartan as well as the Yoga classes offered.    The Spartan X class is a killer!

For years I spent hours in the gym, 5 days a week hundreds of repetitions and miles to nowhere..Then I found obstacle course racing (OCR) and with that a purpose for all of those miles and sets. Each event was a little farther sometimes multiple events in a weekend or a day. Now several years later I find myself making my second attempt at an extreme endurance event in the form of the SISU IRON. Team SISU (derived from the Finnish term Sisu) is the brainchild of Matt Trinca and Daren De Heras, formed to train people to prepare for extreme endurance events and soon after developed their own version of an endurance event called the SISI IRON. The IRON is a 30+ hour event that takes place at the base of the San Gabriel mountains in Monrovia at a Boy Scout Camp called, Camp Trask. The Iron is a test of endurance and will. for 30+ hours athletes complete individual and team tasks including 12 to 15 mile hikes, withstanding the cold murky water of ‘frog pond’, difficult memorization tasks, math problems, archery, wood splitting, 15 mile run for time and a grueling PT session.
This years event takes place April 29- May 2 and I have been preparing by training with the crew at Arena Fitness in Encino and Northridge for the last several months. Thanks, Arena, for getting me ready for this amazing event!
