What are the FOUR things you want to complete this year?

Karla Leoppky, owner of Your Body Your Weigh Fitness, a studio that specializes in personal training in Beaumont, Alberta, Canada, shares her take on what you need to do to be successful with your fitness in 2017.

It’s not about New Year’s Resolutions, these “pie-in-the-sky,” Holy Grail ideas! These tend to just be wishes with little behind them.

It’s about dialing into the specifics of what you want to accomplish and HOW you’re going to do it; having a clear and concise goal.

So, if you want to lose weight, get specific:

  • How much weight?
  • By when?
  • Do you really want to “lose weight” or do you want to drop a pants-size?
  • Can you stay the SAME weight and just reduce inches?

By digging into the specifics, you gain clarity on what you really want and on the action steps for achievement. Without knowing where you’re going, or where you want to go, you’re never going to know how to get there.

If you want to run a half-marathon:

  • Do you just go out and start running?
  • Or do you come up with a schedule? And a specific training plan? And a specific race to prepare for?

If you want to get healthier by drinking less soda (she says “pop,” which makes me grin. We don’t use that term on the West Coast, but when I was a kid growing up in Ohio, we did!):

  • How much do I need to reduce that by?
  • How can I systematically reduce my intake bit by bit until I no longer drink it?

Saying, “I’m quitting pop tomorrow” rarely works!

Create a goal

Be specific

Write it down

“Action it”

And make sure it’s achievable

Review the SMART goals process, so that you are systematic in your approach for your objectives and set yourself up for success!

Thanks, Karla, we appreciate your insight! It’s all about setting yourself up to win, and specificity is the key!
