Set appointments with yourself!

Michelle Sutton is a friend of mine, and is also the owner of CrossFit 330, a gym that focuses on CrossFit in Wadsworth, Ohio, bootcamp training, competition prep and nutrition, among other things. She and I were discussing the top tips we have for improving health and fitness and she nailed it when she identified the importance of scheduling your fitness activities with the same degree of care that you would with every other thing in your life that matters!

To paraphrase her:

“Whatever your fitness goals are, take the time to actually schedule out appointments with yourself in the pursuit of these goals.

  • Put them in your day planner, your iCal, however you schedule any important event in your life
  • Hold it with the same level of importance as you would an appointment with your doctor, your child’s teacher, etc.
  • YOU are JUST as important as all of those other things in your life!

Set yourself up for success this year, schedule out your plan for success, and you’ll get it!”

If you want to make and maintain significant improvements in your health, you really need to learn the value of putting yourself first. Part of that process involves carving out time for your exercise and guarding it fiercely.
