We all know that we should be drinking more water than usual during this heat wave, but how much exactly?  What’s enough for one individual may not be nearly enough for another.  The best rule to follow is for every pound you weigh, you should be drinking an ounce of water.  And that’s for the average person.  If you find yourself perspiring more than usual in the heat or during Joe’s Workout of the Week, you will need to drink more than that to stay hydrated.

Speaking of cucumbers, they’re 97% water and full of nutrients so add them to your next salad or dip them in some hummus for a crisp, hydrating snack.  Other hydrating foods to add this summer are raw radishes, celery, watermelon, broccoli, tomatoes, carrots and apples.

Stay accountable and stay hydrated.  Watch the clock and chug often. Befriend a hydration buddy and check in with them often.  Staying hydrated will help keep you alert, flush out toxins, beautify your skin, increase your training performance and all in all, help you lead a happier, healthier life.
